This is the email

letter I just sent.

It's sad as to what The NY Times has become. I'm native to Brooklyn and started reading The NY Times back in the 70s. It was my choice of newspaper for my commute for 38 years. But I could see the writing on the wall - I retired in 2017 - as the paper morphed from an all-inclusive news, occasionally with a liberal lean - to a omission-filled, misleading-headline, rag that purposely elected Trump in 2016. The Times dwelt on Clinton's emails - a singular issue while ignoring her years of service - while giving the Russian-controlled, charity scam artist, racist, "pxxxy-grabbing, disabled ridiculing, compulsive liar a pass. Equating one thing about Clinton with hundreds of things about Trump.

I canceled my subscription and any connection long ago but occasionally see an issue through a family member and whatever is posted in the media. Even get to see a front page now and then. Skipping legitimate stories to push Trump lies as truths, only-conservative or MAGA visiting columnists, writing the most misleading of headlines: the Times has become what it most loathed years ago: media with no integrity. I would think you would be ashamed but I'm certain you lost that ability years ago in search of dollars and clicks.

I'm ashamed for you.

The games The NY Times plays with headlines are blatant. There’s also their tendency to use photos of Harris that are not flattering - especially when they pair them with photos of Trump that do not reflect his current appearance. This is all too consistent to be entirely a matter of chance.

A while back NYT published an op-ed piece by z purported hapless liberal princeton student who claimed to have been red pilled by all the campus wokeness. Sleuths figured out in about 5 minutes that he was campus chair of young republicans or some such post, and had been an active GOP operative from around age 12.

I saw that piece, and although I didn’t catch the distribution that you noticed, I kept saying to myself, who the hell is this Daniel McCarthy fool and why is he in the NYT? His contributions were ridiculous (Trump crushed it in the debate!) and almost completely free of substance.

I've cancelled my subscription. Their bias is evident.

I cancelled my subscription to the NYT after they buried the James Risen story about illegal wiretapping before the 2004 election. Twenty years later, nothing has happened to give me any regrets. Just incredible that this year of all years, they are not endorsing anyone in the Presidential election. Really, NYT? Is Sulzberger twelve years old?

This is a good example of the reason I canceled my subscription to The New York Times.

My hometown newspaper.

Of the 3 we have if I had a bird I wouldn't line its cage with any of them.

What is with the Times? I have stopped reading them after forty years. And after the Trump-Biden debate I have ceased to watch CNN. Tapper and Bash made a real bungle on antisemitism just yesterday. I once respected them too.

Sooooo, is this to say the NY Times is a Conservative Bastion?

That the Paper of Record supports Trump? Perhaps surreptitiously?

Colour me Confused.

Never Trump neoconservatives are not conservatives, they are liberals alienated from the Democrats years ago mostly for foreign policy reasons and now returning to the fold and finding it to be an exceedingly warm and snug fit.

All correct except that Josh Barro is not a conservative anymore. His background may have been conservative but he now openly uses "we" (that is, including himself) in his arguments for what the Democratic party should do. See, for instance,

My observation of Barro is that he's a conservative who has become uncomfortable with much of the conservative movement wants Trump to lose elections, but still spends somewhere between much and the vast majority of his time criticizing Democrats and liberals. Observations about writers may vary, of course, which is the one reason it is valuable when doing coding like this to employ an objective measure like organization/publication affiliations, like Barro's past work with the right-wing Manhattan Institute (current home of Christopher Rufo.)

I am confused by your reply because it is well-reasoned, insightful, non-snarky, and fair to the person criticizing your post. Please report for 24 hours of duty on twitter where you will learn how to be an abusive dumbass.

Don’t waste your breath, they’re not listening - they’ve never been listening, because here’s the crazy part — they don’t fucking care. Might as well subscribe to them and throw away your money while they laugh their asses off at all the suckers and losers who pay them to publish that predictably fascist-enabling POS.

I’m seriously close to unsubscribing to any Substack writer who continues to delude themselves and their readers that the corporate press will care much less change. If I was interested in delusional thinking, I’d get a MAGA hat.
