I am deeply suspicious that these morons attended their respective office Christmas parties and imbibed heavily before turning these pieces in. What's more troubling is that their editors thought that these pieces were _just fine_.
Why would that be a surprise? Media companies are cheapest and most profitable when all editors are copy editors, no more and no less.
"Copy editors"? All the copy editors got laid off a long time ago.
